I highly recommend S-TESL because of its teachers, philosophy and staff. If you are trying to decide on what school to attend, they offer information sessions and an invitation to observe a class. Classes are available online, in-person, in the evening or daytime or as week intensives. So many choices make it easier to pursue the certification. The class and homework assignments, readings and participation are rigorous and well worth your time and effort if you are serious about this field and helping the ESOL community.

the 4-Week Intensive
It is very intense but well worth it because you get immersed in all aspects of teaching ESL. There is a lot of homework and long class hours, but it is carefully planned out and there is constant support from the teacher.

The course covers a broad range of subjects, from grammar to lesson and activity facilitation, writing unit plans, doing micro-teaching, and more. You definitely learn a ton of great techniques from everything!

The intensive course was challenging and extremely rewarding. Completing the course gave me the confidence to move forward with teaching.

ESL Instructor, EPIK Program, Changwon, South Korea
The content of this course was excellent. It was so nice to finally take a class filled with such practical knowledge. I will use so much of the content (activities, unit plans, lesson plans) in my actual classroom.
It was a very beneficial program for me since I had to travel quite far to attend classes in the evening. Once per week made that feasible for me. It takes longer to complete but it is such a great opportunity to further your education if you are interested in teaching ESL.
The schedule and workload are very good for a person with a full-time day job. Quality of instruction is very high, logically constructed for complete understanding and execution of the class topic.
Lively teachers who are genuinely concerned about student learning. The faculty is committed to staying abreast of research and current topics in ELT.
My registration process was a bit out of the mold, but despite this you made it easy on me and for that I am grateful. I’m glad to know there are professionals like you in our community helping to make our future teachers.
Although I never met the instructor face-to-face, I had the feeling that she was extremely interested in each one of us not just as students, but as individuals. She came to know our quirks and always managed to make her comments very personal and meaningful. I thought the presentation of materials was excellent! I always knew what was expected of me and when it was expected.
The course delivery was good. This was the first online course that I have taken so I was impressed how well it went between me and the instructor and my colleagues. Feedback given to me by my instructor was timely and constructive.
I thought the class was extremely well organized. The material was very useful to me in the teaching that I am currently doing. I think that I personally learned more from this class than many of the others I have taken to get my teaching degree. The class was challenging but fun.
the ELL Endorsement
I am working toward my ELL endorsement and just completed the 4-Week Intensive course. It was definitely “intense” but the quality of instruction was amazing. Not only do I feel very prepared to go out and teach in a variety of settings, I also have a great beginning network of colleagues. The support of all the personnel at S-TESL is also great, they are not just pushing people through a program but really there to support you and the field of ESL, their enthusiasm is contagious. Highly recommended.

I would highly recommend this course I because it has definitely prepared me to teach ESL students and has taught me to look at the world through different eyes. I feel that regular classroom teachers should take courses like this since the student population is always of mixed cultures.
From the Field
I ran a local program for seven years. I hired many teachers and found that those who went through the S-TESL program were by far stronger candidates than those from any other program – local or otherwise – including those with master’s degrees in TESOL (who did not go through S-TESL). I have found that the S-TESL students far outshine the others in terms of preparedness to teach immediately, and the ability to be creative and flexible. In working with interns, I have found that S-TESL graduates are strongly prepared with the materials, theory, practice, and confidence that others lack. This makes S-TESL graduates stand out in a field that is inundated with qualified candidates.
