If you are a graduate of the School of Teaching ESL, there is a website that has been created just to help you.

Access to this website is restricted to graduates of The School of Teaching ESL only.

Graduates Listserve

Graduates of the School of Teaching ESL, are invited to join our email discussion list. This list is a great way to keep in touch with the School of Teaching ESL. Graduates on the list frequently share information about employment throughout the world.

Graduates can ask questions and expect helpful response from colleagues on the list (including the School of Teaching ESL instructional staff). If you wish to join the list, send an email to steslinfo@spu.edu Give your name (at the time of study) and approximate dates of study.

The information about how to subscribe is also in your course workbooks. When you are properly subscribed, you will receive a welcome message from the list which includes instructions.

S-TESL Facebook Group

Do you Facebook? Connect with other graduates in the S-TESL facebook group, S-TESL, it SWBAT its all about. A perfect place to meet other S-TESL grads from around the world, and share and discuss your TESOL experiences.

Monthly Employment Seminar

The director gives a monthly employment seminar at the School of Teaching ESL. If you are graduate (or near-graduate) of the School of Teaching ESL, call the office at 206.781.8607 to attend a seminar.

The Employment seminar includes the following:

  • What kind of jobs exist in the world of TESOL and where to look for them.
  • What level of education (certification, degrees) is needed for various jobs.
  • How to write a great resume that will highlight your experience in light of the advertised job.
  • How to prepare a powerful professional portfolio to show and discuss during interviews.
  • Tips for preparing for interviews.

If you want to get an idea of what kind of jobs are available in ESOL, a good starting point is www.eslcafe.com. This website is commonly known as “Dave’s ESL Café”.

The S-TESL Silver Anniversary Award

About the award

Amount of award: $200-250.00

Number of awards available: Two or Three awards/year, given in December

Deadline for submission: Dec. 1 for the current year award.

Requirements: A graduate of the School of Teaching ESL Certificate program, currently teaching locally or abroad.

To submit:

Please send the following by the deadline:

  • Your name, address, phone number, e-mail address and school affiliation, year(s) of study at S-TESL.
  • A brief statement (no more than 500 words) describing your professional experience and explaining how this award would benefit your current teaching situation (be specific).

Awards are given based on demonstrated commitment to the profession and intended purpose for the award.
